Yes, I think brown and black can look great together.

I know there’s that “rule” but I just kind of ignore it. Some shades of brown look good with black, some less so. It’s more about finding the right shade of brown than forgoing brown and black altogether in my eyes.
Also I don’t know if this is actually correct, but I was once told that rule only really applies to leathers, as in don’t mix black and brown leather.
Either way, I would wear (and do wear) black and brown together.
